Weekly Weigh-in Results
I was a little anxious about stepping on those scales for my first weekly weigh-in as this week has been full of challenges!
However, I am relieved and pleased to report that I lost 2lbs! Huzzah!
What happened this week
Let me tell you a bit about the challenges I faced this week:
- Team meeting at work with biscuits and marshmallow teacakes
- Unexpected evening meal out
- Family BBQ
- Birthday at work with cakes
Phew! What a week! With all of that going on this week you can see why I’m extra pleased with my result at the scales.
So which of these was the toughest? Well, I knew about the meeting and BBQ so I already had coping strategies planed for those. Luckily the alert for birthday cake went out after lunch which made it a lot easier to resist. That leaves the unexpected meal out.
This was a toughie, not only was it unexpected but the chosen restaurant (not chosen by me I hasten to add) was a popular pizza restaurant chain which doesn’t offer many low-cal meals especially for plant based diets.
How I coped with an unexpected meal out
Thankfully I had been tracking my calorie intake so I knew how many calories I had to left to play with. After being seated I set about trying to track down the nutritional values for their menu – which, I guess unsurprisingly, was actually not easy to do.
Now I could have gone with the one and only low-cal option available to me (and would have done so if the nutritional values hadn’t been available), which was under 400 calories they are not very inspiring. Of course I could have added a salad to it, but I’m not a big fan of salad leaves (you’d have to smother them in chocolate before I’d eat them!).
In this instance the nutritional values were given per slice. I worked out how many slices of one of the vegetarian pizzas I was prepared to eat to stay within my my calorie allowance as long as I only had diet soda to drink and ate nothing else that evening.
This restaurant chain does offer a vegan cheese alternative but the list of nutritional values must have been out of date as it didn’t have the calories for that option. I figured it wouldn’t be much different to regular cheese and worried no further.
Why did I opt for the normal pizza as opposed to the low-cal option? The simple answer is I wanted my meal to be satisfying. I’ve tried that particular low-cal option and they are rather disappointing not to mention gone in a few bites. By having a smaller amount of regular pizza I felt satisfied instead of deprived.
What challenges have you faced this week and how did you cope?
Have a good week
